Introduction
The album is done, the stage is set, and the anticipation is over. From numerous EP’s to a full album. What her fans have been waiting for. “Pathway” is finally here, and it has been sensational. Over 300,000 sales in the UK alone, making the album go platinum has meant a first album triumph for “Hannah”. Only Ed Sheeran has been more successful this year than this young, talented girl, and to only be beaten, by an artist of his stature, is a privilege in itself. It has been a rollercoaster for her. Almost quitting music around a year and a half ago, and look where she is now, only 21 years of age. What a journey. What a future she has ahead of her.
Born in the south east of England, in a small town of Bexley, a star was born. She says she found her talent when she was singing in her room and her sister burst in and said to her “you know you could be a real star one day”. And from then on things changed for her, music lessons were now an opportunity to write songs and make backing tracks. English lessons where spent writing lyrics, trying to rhyme words, so that one day she could see her name in lights, and her album on sop shelves. It has all been hard work “since I was 17” and it seems to have all paid off with the release of her first album, but the real work starts now, it’s about “taking on America and succeeding”.
Questions
Your new album “Pathway” is number 2 in the charts, how does that feel?
It’s simply amazing. The feeling I got after its release was incredible, but now looking at the charts, seeing my work at number 2, wow, what a feeling. The lyrics, the beats and the production of the album, it has all been down to me at the end of the day. My manager has guided me for parts of the process, but overall, it’s been me. And that is what is the most rewarding thing of all, looking at the charts and seeing what I’ve done, what I’ve worked for, being successful, it’s the best feeling in the world. But now, the second album, that’s the make or break for me.
Well, seeing as you hinted at it, has work started on the second album?
I can’t say if I have or haven’t, but when I do you’ll know about it because, hopefully, fingers crossed, it’s going to set the world alight! The first album had a certain flow to it, but the second album, it will go off in a completely different direction. That’s all I can say about it if I’m being honest.
What do you think you’re going to do to get the next album to number 1?
That is a tough question but I have some ideas floating around in my head. Its more or less going to have a different feeling to the first album. “Pathway” had a more emotional feel to it, with “Two Take” and “Extra” but the new album will go to a whole new level really. Obviously I’m still going to write about the same things as that’s just my style, but things will be different, real different.
What has been the biggest change in your life since the first album dropped?
Well, there are a number of things that have changed, like the paparazzi, there are loads more of them following me round from place to place trying to snap my photo, and to start off I loved it, being in the limelight. But now, it’s quite frankly infuriating, why can’t they just fuck off? I want my privacy like any other human being, but I guess I’ll just have to deal with it. And things like when you’re walking down the street, someone will just be like “oh my god, you’re Hannah I love your new album” and it’s a pleasure, in a weird way, to have people praising your work. I mean, it’s a really heart-warming feeling as its mine, it’s what I worked on for over a year, and to have so many people liking what I produce, it’s great.
So, what’s next for you?
What’s next, wow, I haven’t really thought about it *laughs* I mean there are a few things. I’ll probably go on holiday, almost like a celebration of the new album, but it won’t be for long, I’m ready to get back to doing what I love. Then I think a tour is in order, to be able to perform for my fans, how astonishing that is going to feel! But yeah, the tour is the main thing that’s next for me, and I’ve been doing gigs and shows since I was 17, but this time it isn’t going to be playing to 20 drunken people in a pub. This time it’s going to be to my fans and I want to put on a performance, to give something back to them for their insane support on the album. And I think I’m ready for the challenge of taking on America and succeeding, that is my goal with the next album. How hard it will be, I’m not too sure but I know that I pretty much want to take on the world with my music.
